My 2 Secret Weapons for Staying Hydrated During this Pregnancy!

Hi loves!

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week and is ready for the weekend. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m getting super anxious and excited about this baby arriving, but I feel like this week has gone by so slow, does anyone else?

Anywho, I wanted to chat with you guys about something that’s been really important for me to continue to do during my pregnancy… stay hydrated! Especially since this summer has of course been so hot and humid, or at least this preggo lady thinks so. It’s super important to stay hydrated of course at all times, but even more so when you are pregnant. Did you know that there can be an almost 20% increase in red blood cells during pregnancy? That’s a lot more blood volume than a non pregnant person PLUS our bodies are working hard growing a baby, flushing out toxins, creating amniotic fluid for that little one to swim around in – all things that require WATER! At times it can be really hard to remember to drink enough water, or really to even want to. Water can be so boring sometimes, amiriteeeeee?

Well first of all, one of the ways that I have been attempting to remember to drink enough water is this trusty water bottle right here. It has time stamps on it to help hold you accountable for how much water you should be drinking throughout the day. There are lines on the water bottle corresponding to the times and you can see through it to tell if you have reached that mark at the designated time. It honestly has been super helpful for me and it’s also sort of like a game to me now. If I get behind I’m like playing catch up to get to the correct time and it’s more fun to think that I’m playing a game than just to be like okay I need to drink more water lol. 🤣

This brings me to my next point. Water can be boringggg at times. Being pregnant AND type one diabetic, the beverage options are pretty lacking when you’re trying to avoid sugar and carbs and so plain ol water can get tiring after a while. Well that’s where these bad boys from Alive at 5 Nutrition come in clutchhh. They make fortified waters with zero carbohydrates or sugar and hydration drinks with only 7 carbohydrate, still zero sugars but they really help you stay hydrated while adding a touch more flavor to that plain ol water without all the added calories or sugar.

The fortified waters are infused with aloe vera (great for hydration) and they come in multiple flavors while still being zero calorie, zero carb, and zero sugars – think flavored seltzer waters but without the fizzyness. They’re honestly delicious and I’ve been drinking them like crazy. Even my husband likes them which is saying a lot because he generally doesn’t like flavored things like this!

The hydration drinks are almost more of like a gatorade type drink – but again without all the excess sugar and calories at just 20 calories for an entire bottle, zero grams of sugar, and 7 grams of carbs. They are sweetened with stevia leaf and also infused with aloe vera for plant powered hydration. Personally I like to take half of one of these and mix it with ice and water. It’s delicious on a hot day when you want something tasty but still not overpowering with the sweetness.

My personal favorite is this soothing strawberry flavor from the Alive at 5 Nutrition fortified waters. It’s just a hint of flavor, but enough that you actually want to keep drinking your water and not have to trick yourself into playing a game to do so. 😂 You can buy a 6 pack of these waters from their website for $13.50 making them about $2.25 a pop and I don’t know about you but to keep myself hydrated, that’s definitely worth it to me!

The coolest thing about these waters and Alive at 5 Nutrition, is that they give back to children. Their goal is to “Nourish You and Another Too”™ by giving back to malnourished children all around the globe. For every purchase you make, you’ll help nourish a child under the age of 5 in need. As a new mom to be and lover of all children in general, this was something that was really important to me and made me extremely excited to partner with Alive at 5 Nutrition aside from their tasty drinks. You can check out their entire mission and who they’ve partnered with to help make this mission statement of theirs more of a reality by clicking here and reading about their story.

Side note, just as an FYI, if you are pregnant like myself I’d recommend checking with your doctor before consuming anything outside of your typical diet. Google can claim that aloe can cause early labor in some pregnancies, however I checked with my own OBGYN first before trying these out and she informed me they would be fine. But again please consult your own doctor first as every body is different!

What are some of your favorite ways to stay hydrated? I’m always looking for new and tasty ways to do so and these waters landed in my lap at the perfect time. Next week is supposed to be another hot and humid one where I live so I’ll be sure to have a few of these chilling and ready to go! I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

XoXo

Thank you Emily!! I drink a ton of water at work but would LOVE to have another option.

I’m ordering Alice at 5 for my mini fridge in my office – I’ll send you a pic when it’s all stocked.

    Xoxo
